Recovered Strawberries Planted

When we too over the plot, in amongst the weeds, we found a bunch of strawberry plants. We dug them up and potted them, hoping to find somewhere to plant them. Luckily they managed to survive the autumn and winter out in pots, so we made a small bed and planted them. It is a shame we don’ have any wood yet to make a raised bed, but this looks pretty good as it is.

Strawberry recovery

Like our last plot, in clearing the weeds we discovered and recovered some strawberry plants. They actually looked pretty healthy, and with all the main plants and runners potted the number came to 20. Problem is, there is no guaranty of the type or quality of the fruit, who knows where they came from originally and whether anyone had put much care into the type they were planting. Looking around at strawberry plant suppliers on the interweb, there is a vast and overwhelming range of variates with not much so see between them! I think we need to look at when the best time of year is to plant, as well as get the bed prepared first, and then trawl through and pick a variety (or two) based on flavour and maybe some other unique and interesting quality.

It does appear the October is there delivery time, so we better get a move on!
